AM Joyce Watson is calling for a longer deadline to allow St Davids pool user group to produce a business plan to save their local facility.
Pembrokeshire County Council has given St Davids two months to develop a business plan to fund the £150,000 per annum deficit on running the swimming pool.
The council plans to close the pool and build a fitness centre in its place, but many locals want the pool to be maintained alongside the planned centre.
Joyce Watson has now written to Bryn Parry-Jones, chief executive of Pembrokeshire County Council, and Simon Hancock, chairman of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, about the proposed closure.
She said: “I will be offering my support and assistance to the campaign to maintain the current swimming pool in St Davids.
“The council has given just two months to the local St Davids pool user group to come up with a business plan that could save this much needed and much valued local facility.
“I find this very disappointing and would ask you to reconsider the appropriateness of this very short time-frame for a decision that will have a long-term impact on the locality.”
She added: “St Davids is one of the key tourist areas for Wales, and anything that can be done to maintain that position should be done.”
