Members of Pembrokeshire Community Health Council (CHC) visited the new accident and emergency department being built at Withybush Hospital last week.
The skeleton frame for the £10.3million emergency and urgent care centre is now in place and the next job for contractors Interserve Project Services is to install a lift.
More than 190 tonnes of steel have been erected and the first and second levels of concrete block work has been put in place.
CHC chief officer, Ashley Warlow, said: “The CHC has been much aware of the inadequacies of the A&E facilities at Withybush Hospital for some time, and have long pressed for improvement.
“It is pleasing to now see the new construction well underway. Upon its completion this will give us the much larger, fully integrated and modern state-of-the-art emergency care centre that Pembrokeshire patients deserve.”
The new centre will be one of the first of its type in Wales, offering emergency, urgent, social care and out-of-hours services together under one roof.
Trust chairman Chris Martin said: “It is fantastic to see the building come to life and now the steel frames are in place it is much easier to get an impression of what the end product will look like.
“The emergency and urgent care centre model will greatly improve the way we deliver care to patients in Pembrokeshire.”
