Police in Milford Haven are warning the public to be on their guard against bogus callers, pretending to be from BT.
The warning comes after a Milford Haven woman was phoned at her home on Tuesday.
The caller told her that he was from BT and that she had an amount outstanding on her bill. He asked her for payment details and said that if she did not give her bank account or credit card details over the phone, she would be cut off.
The woman refused and asked for a number to ring back when she had checked her bill.
After she had checked that her last phone bill had been fully paid she rang back the number given by the caller, which proved not to be a BT customer service number.
"We are asking members of the public to be on their guard against this," said a spokesman at Milford Haven police station.
"You should only ever give personal details over the phone if you are 100% sure of the caller's identity."
