The mystery of Narberth's UFO sightings has been solved.

Western Telegraph reader, Peter Owen, contacted the paper yesterday (Tuesday) to say he had seen strange lights in the sky to the south of the town which hovered before ascending rapidly to the west.

Mr Owen had been one of three men to see the lights which they thought could belong to strange craft or a new American military machine.

The MoD confirmed that there had been no scheduled exercises taking place in the area on Monday night but did not rule out the possibility that it could have been military flights at above 2000 feet, or that the lights could have been UFOs.

However, it seems the sighting was in fact of earthly origin: the mysterious lights were in fact Chinese flying lanterns that had been launched by Graham Dyer of North Mead, Narberth.

"They looked so realistic," said Mr Owen.

"From where we were standing they looked like craft or flying machines. I feel such a fool. We were completely outfoxed by them.

"At least we're not going to be invaded and it's nice to know that it's not some new fangled American experiment."
