Sir Thomas Picton School, in Haverfordwest, is set to premier a fun-filled and energetic gangster performance of Bugsy Malone tonight (Tuesday).

In the final lead-up to the ambitious performances today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday) students have been rehearsing on a daily basis for the show.

“We just can’t wait to get up and perform now and show everyone how hard we’ve been working,” said 14-year-old James Bartlett, who plays Bugsy Malone.

The performance is particularly exciting as it is the first musical the school has presented for nearly ten years.

The production also coincides with the launch of the recently established performing arts department at STP.

From September, the new department will deliver a specified BTEC course in performing arts, alongside the existing popular courses in music and drama.

“This is a very exciting time at STP,” said head of performing arts, James Olyott.

“It has been our focus for a number of years to increase performance opportunities for students and re-establish STP as a leading school in the county for productions.”
