Ysgol Brynconin pupil in line for a literary 'Oscar'

A Pembrokeshire primary school pupil is in the running for a literary 'Oscar.'

Eleven-year-old Tallulah Ray, of Ysgol Brynconin in Llandisillio, is up for an award after winning a prize for her poem, Darkness, on a special website for gifted children.

Darkness, which was inspired by classwork about Helen Keller, was one of Tallulah’s regular written and art work contributions to the publishinghouse.

Bob Woodall, primary consultant for the West Midlands gifted and talented schools group from the University of Wolverhampton, visited Brynconin School to present Tallulah with her prize.

At a special assembly held in her honour, Mr Woodall, who is the website's coordinator, said Tallulah was now in the running to be nominated for a literary ‘Oscar’ as her work had inspired so many other children in the West Midlands area.

Headteacher Elin Evans said the school was very proud of Tallulah.

“She very much deserves this prize as she loves writing and creative work,” she said. “It's wonderful that she is also inspiring other youngsters.”

The ‘Oscars’ will be held in Coventry in September.
