A planning application for a wind farm on the Milford Haven waterway has been submitted by renewable energy developers Infinergy.
The proposal is for a four-turbine wind farm, known as Wear Point Wind Farm, on a brownfield site alongside the SemLogistics tank farm near Llanstadwell.
The application follows more than a year of studies and surveys to assess the suitability of the site. These included habitats, wildlife, birds, archaeology, hydrology, traffic, aviation, TV and mobile phone reception, and visual impact.
Wear Point Wind Farm would be Infinergy’s second Pembrokeshire development, having recently opened a four-turbine wind farm at Steynton.
Project manager Lorraine Dallmeier said: “It’s vital we do much more to contribute to world efforts to counter climate change. Wind power is an integral part of those efforts, and we hope that we will be able to implement our plans for Wear Point Wind Farm.”
Last year, Infinergy outlined plans at public exhibitions and explained how any impact from the construction and operation of the wind farm would be addressed.
Of some 79 quantifiable responses the company received during several months of consultation, the majority of residents (62%) stated they were supportive or very supportive.
“We have put in a lot of effort to get this application right and believe we have a good application which has support locally,” said Lorraine.
“We believe that with the support of local people, we can provide a fantastic opportunity for the community of Milford Haven to contribute significantly towards renewable energy generation.”
The application and environmental statement (ES) are available for viewing at: County Hall, Haverfordwest, Argyle Street, Pembroke Dock, and Milford Haven library.
The non-technical summary of the application and a CD with all the submitted documents are available free from Infinergy. The ES documents will be made available for downloading from www.wearpointwindfarm.
