Two local farmers are battling it out on S4C tonight in a gruelling S4C competition to find Wales’ best farmer.

Rhys Evans of Troed yr Aur, Newcastle Emlyn and Aled Rees of Trefere Fawr, Cardigan, are among the eight remaining contestants in S4C’s farming competition, Fferm Factor.

The group will will face a number of challenges in the latest edition of the series, shown tonight (Tuesday, November 10th) at 8.25pm, on S4C.

Rhys, aged 26, is in the middle of restoring an old cow shed on Troed yr Aur farm. He was inspired by his grandfather, Tom, and his father, Teifi, to follow the same path as them. He enjoys the variety of his daily work.

He said: “You only get one chance so I’ll be doing my utmost to ensure a place in the final round.”

The competition is getting fierce now, and one farmer leaves each week.

Aled, aged 38, worked as a lorry driver and sold agricultural equipment in Staffordshire before returning to farming in 1996.

He said: “The competition is personal. Everyone is a threat to each other.”

Tasks test their practical skills on the farm as well as their knowledge of the farming industry.

Judge Dai Jones said: “There’s no more room for being nicey-nicey in this competition now — if they don’t come up to the mark, they’ll get the boot.

“I’ll be looking for broad- minded people who are willing to learn and move forward all the time.

“They must possess personal qualities as much as technical and practical abilities to take advantage of opportunities.”
