The ‘clock is ticking’ as the consultation period for new car parking charges in the county is coming to an end.
The public notice detailed the proposed introduction of new charges in Milford Haven, Pembroke Dock, Fishguard and Newport.
The emotive proposals have been greeted with many objections from residents countywide.
Milford Haven mayor Councillor Tony Eden, who is strongly against the introduction of charges, said he would be encouraging as many people as possible to “pick up a pen and protest”.
Cllr Eden said: “There are no benefits whatsoever and it has already been proved in the past that it is not financially viable.
“The more people that protest the better.”
He added that it was paramount that the protests from residents were heard.
The Milford Haven business circle has written a letter of objection and chairman of the group Vivian Phillips echoed Cllr Eden’s sentiments and said it was essential that people put pen to paper and submit letters.
“I know there is never a good time to introduce these charges but they could not have picked a worse time.”
“The clock has started ticking now and we must do everything we can to encourage people to write in and object to it,” she said.
The public has until tomorrow, November 11th to submit objections, which must specify the grounds on which they are made, and representations to Ian Westley, director of transportation and environment at County Hall.
