12:20pm Friday 20th November 2009

The co-founder of the Transition movement, Rob Hopkins, was in Narberth yesterday (Thursday) for an evening celebrating the town’s part in the world-wide organisation.

Transition is a community-based association helping to prepare local communities to move from a high-carbon economy to a more sustainable, low-carbon society.

Narberth’s group, Transitionarberth is one of more than 100 in UK which are raising awareness of sustainable living and restoring local resilience.

Author and lecturer, Rob Hopkins, was at the Queens Hall for yesterday’s "Unleashing" event.

He has been named by the Independent as one of the UK’s top 100 environmentalists, and his book, The Transition Handbook, was voted by MPs as ‘the fifth best book to take on holiday’.

Also speaking were local author and environmentalist, Dr Brian John and environmental campaigner Gordon James, director of Friends of the Earth Cymru.
