Clynderwen farmer hanged himself in shed, inquest hears

A Pembrokeshire farmer hanged himself in a shed outside his home, the Pembrokeshire Coroner heard today (Friday).

Concern was raised for 77-year-old Simon Eric Evans on August 23rd 2009 after his brother called to visit him at his bungalow in Bro Waldo, Clynderwen and could get no reply.

Mr Evans' brother called on neighbours who had a spare key to the bungalow.

Neighbour, Mrs Davies, entered the house but she could not find Mr Evans. She then looked in a shed outside the house and found Mr Evans hanging. He was cold to the touch and rigour mortis had set in.

An ambulance was called and arrived at 4.44pm.

A post mortem carried out by a Withybush Hospital pathologist concluded that the cause of death was hanging. No note was found.

HM Coroner for Pembrokeshire, Michael Howells, concluded that Mr Evans had died from self-administered asphyxiation.

Mr Evans was one of 11 children and had worked as a farmer all his life since leaving school at 14. He was single, had never married and had no children.
