Pembroke Dock 's PC Johnny Morris retires from Dyfed-Powys Police after three decades

One of Pembroke Dock’s longest serving police officers hung up his helmet yesterday (Thursday) as he retired after over 30 years.

PC Johnny Morris joined Dyfed-Powys Police in July 1979, in November of that year he was stationed as a PC in Pembroke Dock .

Throughout his career he has undertaken various attachments, including to CID and roads policing, but has always returned to Pembroke Dock.

He was also deployed to the 1984 miners' strike and the 2005 G8 Summit in Gleneagles and assisted during the 2001 foot and mouth crisis.

PC Johnny Morris was a tutor for student officers and estimates he has tutored around 25 people.

“I have loved my time in Pembroke Dock and it’s a wonderful place to live and work," said PC Morris. However, his most memorable experience as an officer happened out of the county.

"This was being chased in our vehicle by a bulldozer in Brecon during the foot and mouth crisis," he said.

"The bulldozer actually crushed a South Wales Police car with the driver still in it."

Chief Superintendent Dean Richards said PC Morris epitomised the local bobby on the beat.

"For the last 30 years he has been a well known and influential police officer within the communities of Pembroke Dock," he said.

"Latterly he has been part of the neighbourhood team there. He was an experienced tutor who provided initial guidance and development to a number of officers, some of whom are now high ranking officers within the force.

"PC Morris can be proud of his service, he will be missed by his colleagues and we wish him well for the future.”

PC Morris is now planning on enjoying his retirement this summer, before looking for a new career.
