Don't be fooled by credit card "refund" scam, says Dyfed-Powys Police

Dyfed-Powys Police are warning credit card holders not to give their details over the phone, following a recent "refund" scam.

Police say that numerous householders have received calls telling them that they are due a refund in a credit card payment protection plan.

The caller asks for card and bank details. They say they need them immediately so that a refund can be deposited within 48 hours.

The sham company appears to be based in Britain as the calls originate from the Blackpool area.

Police are reminding residents not to exchange bank or card details over the phone, especially when the call is unsolicited. They should ask for the request to be sent to them in writing.

Members of the public who have received calls of this nature are urged to report them either to Dyfed-Powys Police on 101, their local authority's trading standards team or theit telephone service provider.
