People arrested for drink related offences in Pembrokeshire will now have the chance to take part in a pilot scheme.
Those arrested for being drunk and disorderly, drunk and incapable or for alcohol related public order offences will now have the opportunity to attend a three hour course and pay £40, as opposed to paying an £80 fine.
In a bid to get to the root of the drinking culture, Dyfed-Powys Police have linked with Prism Clearway to implement the course.
The course will teach offenders about the strength and effects of alcohol, the effects alcohol has on our thinking and behaviour and identifying risk situations.
The scheme will run in Pembrokeshire for a 12 month trial period.
“We welcome the opportunity to work closer with Prism Clearway," said Chief Superintendent Dean Richards.
"We hope to tackle alcohol-related crime and disorder by providing opportunities for those arrested to examine the cause of their offending and we will offer support to reduce reoffending.”
