Excitement is growing as green-fingered locals look forward to reaping the benefits of new allotments in Fishguard.
A group of residents, who have been campaigning to have more allotments in the area for several years, are delighted that land has now been made available.
The family of the late Elwyn Lloyd-Williams have dedicated a site in his memory.
The land is to the east of Fishguard, and local allotment seekers have set up an allotment association to manage it.
Chairman of the new association, Councillor Dai Williams, said: “This is excellent news. The allotments will be an asset to the community.
“I am confident that more sites will be needed around the town to meet demand and avoid unnecessary car use. Weather permitting, site work will soon be underway.”
The Elwyn Lloyd-Williams allotments site will have space for ten plots, and there are indications that these will be snapped up quickly.
Having campaigned for at least two years for more allotments, Transition Bro Gwaun is delighted to support this new venture.
Local transition group member Tom Latter said: “We foresee a growing demand for allotment land and we would welcome additional sites adjacent to Fishguard.
“Local food security will become increasingly important, and we shall continue to press Pembrokeshire County Council to make more land available for allotments adjacent to urban development.”
Speaking at last week’s Fishguard and Goodwick town council meeting, Cllr Dai Williams said: “I am very pleased to inform this council of the position at the moment.
