Pembrokeshire County Council cabinet member Brian Hall has been reported to the ombudsman by a fellow councillor over allegations that he made 'specific threats of extreme violence' against BBC Dragon's Eye programme presenter Simon Morris.

Labour leader Joyce Watson claims he has breached the council's code of conduct.

Cllr Hall was originally investigated by former Western Telegraph reporter Simon Morris in April last year. This was over an alleged business relationship between Cllr Hall and Dr Michael Ryan, an Irish economic development consultant employed by the council.

The latest incident, highlighted in Thursday's Dragon's Eye programme, was said to have occurred last month during a private preview of the BBC series Pembrokeshire Land of Promise. Cllr Hall was among a number of VIPs there, including senior BBC executive Hugh Roberts and Tory AM Glyn Davies.

It was alleged that during a conversation Cllr Hall made specific threats against Simon Morris.

"It was inappropriate for an elected representative to speak like that," said Mr Davies.

And Mr Roberts added: "Because they were such extraordinary remarks I wasn't taking them seriously. But it was evident that much of what he said he meant."

However, Glyn Davies said: "I don't think he meant to carry it out. If I thought that he intended to, I would have reported him to the police."

The Dragon's Eye programme reported the incident to the police, who said they could not take the matter further because there was no chance of a successful prosecution.

Cllr Watson and Labour councillors Sue Perkins, Pearl Llewellyn and Tony Wilcox, have also written to the council leader, Cllr John Davies with a number of questions, including what action he will take over Cllr Hall.

The letter stated: "The Labour group feels this type of alleged behaviour brings the whole of the council into disrepute and asks you to act without hesitation."

Cllr Davies was not available to comment on the letter.
