Plain sailing for South Hook LNG and Switzer UK after Carr jetty ceremony in Pembroke Dock

A unique milestone in the partnership between South Hook LNG and Switzer UK was marked today (Wednesday).

Five Switzer tugs and two line boats, which provide marine services to the LNG vessels using the South Hook jetty, were formally named during a ceremony at the Carr jetty in Pembroke Dock.

Negotiations between the two groups first began in 2007, and Mark Malone, Chief Executive of Switzer, said: "I think this really is a fantastic sign of marine focus in the haven.

"There has been a lot of time in between the project being initiated and completed, but it has been a major positive for both the marina and employment.

Mr Malone added that "exciting" times were ahead.

"Milford Haven is now the precedent we have set for what we would like to do in other ports."

The seven vessels were named as Svitzer Kilroom, Svitzer Lindsway, Svitzer Gelliswick, Svitzer Musselwick, Svitzer Watwick, Svitzer Taku and Svitzer Thaw. The biggest vessel, the Switzer Kilrrom, weighs 819 tonnes.

The tug fleet, that is deployed to deliver secure supplies of natural gas from Qatar's North Field to the UK market, is one of the largest in the world.

Patrick Lawson-Early, Operations Superintendent for South Hook LNG, said being able to confirm a full fleet of Switzer tugs was a significant step forward.
