Tenby wife charged with attempting to murder husband offers guilty to wounding plea

A Tenby woman accused of attempting to murder her husband today (Monday) offered a plea of guilty to wounding.

Shafia Sofan, aged 50, continues to deny attempted murder and an alternative charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Sofan admitted hitting her husband Mohammed Abdul Sofan with a bhoti, a 19 inch long blade used as a kitchen utensil.

She was arrested on March 11th after an incident at the couple's home in The Maudlins, Tenby, during which her husband suffered injuries to his head and hand.

Sofan appeared before Judge John Diehl at Swansea crown court today for a plea and case management hearing, which an interpreter translated into Bengali.

Judge Diehl said he required more information from the prosecution and adjourned the hearing to June 25th.

Sofan was further remanded in custody to Eastwood Park women's prison, near Bristol.
