This evening Withybush Hospital’s new multimillion pound Emergency and Urgent Care Centre will open its doors for visitors to take a look before the official opening later this summer.
Between 6pm and 8pm visitors will be given a short guided tour of the £10.7million unit by medical and management staff, who will be able to answer questions.
When opened, the new department will be Wales’ most modern and up-to-date emergency care unit and deliver a pioneering model of care, integrating emergency hospital services with GP out-of-hours and urgent social care.
There is also the county’s first clinical decisions unit, which will allow doctors and nurses to assess, investigate and treat patients prior to discharge home or transfer on to a ward, along with 17 en-suite assessment rooms and two treatment rooms.
Anyone interested in looking around is welcome to the open event. Parking is the main hospital car park and visitors should go to the main entrance of the new building. Groups of eight will be taken around and others will be asked to wait in reception for the next tour. Tours will end at the back of the new building.
Other facilities at the new unit include: A new four-bay state-of-the-art resuscitation centre.
See and treat rooms for patients with urgent problems A dedicated en-suite gynaecology room X-ray facilities which will allow x-rays to be taken within the department A separate waiting and treatment area for children A bigger ambulance entrance to serve up to four ambulances simultaneously.
