The first service available at Withybush's new Emergency and Urgent Care Centre opens its doors to the public today (Monday).
Pembrokeshire’s first Adult Clinical Decisions Unit (ACDU) will, from this morning, allow doctors, nurses and other professionals to best assess, investigate and treat patients prior to discharge home or transfer to the most appropriate ward.
Patients at the ACDU will spend a maximum of 12 hours in the unit, which contains 17 rooms, all with en suite facilities, and two treatment areas.
The provision of single-rooms means greater privacy, minimisation of infections and that the facilities can be used by both male and female patients.
Patients who are discharged from the ACDU after being treated and who need additional aid will be discharged back into the community with the appropriate support.
Hywel Dda Health Board’s county director for Pembrokeshire and director of social services for Pembrokeshire County Council Jon Skone, said:
“This is a real example of partnership working in action and demonstrates the value of our multi-disciplinary emergency and urgent care teams being integrated and under one roof.”
The £10.7m Emergency and Urgent Care Centre itself, which will provide an integrated Emergency Department and GP-Out-of-Hours service, will open on Wednesday, July 14th.
