Former Tenby Cottage Hospital site to be sold, cabinet confirms

A former cottage hospital site in Tenby is to be sold.

Pembrokeshire County Council’s Cabinet decided this morning to dispose of the former cottage hospital site off Trafalgar Road.

It is likely that the site will be sold for residential development and - as it falls under Pembrokeshire Coast National Park planning rules - 30% of any future homes will be affordable housing.

The Leader of Pembrokeshire County Council, Councillor John Davies, told this morning’s Cabinet meeting that the sale would allow the council to ‘grow its own capital’ in the face of impending national budget cuts.

“The sale of this site will allow the release of capital and also in part meet the requirements of affordable housing in this part of the County,” he said.

“It’s a very valuable residential site. This kind of site does not come onto the market very often.”

The 0.4 acre site off Trafalgar road is currently vacant following the demolition of the former hospital and decontamination of the site.

People, especially young children need gardens and open space to play in.
