Residents of St Thomas Green, Haverfordwest, have voiced concern and anger over the ongoing problems of parking.

Many of them say they are unable to find a parking space near their homes because the St Thomas area is being used by various local individuals and traders to run their businesses.

And there are fears that once work begins on the new leisure centre on the old county offices site, the situation will get even worse.

Local county councillor Thomas Tudor met a number of concerned residents at a recent constituency surgery.

"The kind of reports I am receiving are concerning," he said.

"They include cars being left on the Green with for sale' signs on the window, resulting in the taking up of much needed parking bays for weeks on end.

"This practice is largely attributed to private individuals.

"Local car and van hiring businesses are also using the car park for customers to pick up and return hired vehicles.

"Garages are using the car park to repair vehicles, in particular vehicles for hire," he added.

Cllr Tudor has written to Ian Westley, director of transportation and environment at Pembrokeshire County Council.

In the letter he asked if Mr Westley could investigate the parking problems and come up with a solution for local residents.

"I am sure you can appreciate how frustrated the residents feel when they are unable to park their cars," said Cllr Tudor "I would ask you to again seriously look into the possibility of providing permit parking for the residents who live on St Thomas Green.

"This could be achieved by having all the bays outside the terraced homes, which includes Morgan's Terrace, Lexton Terrace and Grove Place, or a small section of car park allocated as residents' parking only bays."
