Advanced and AS-Level results in Pembrokeshire's secondary schools are the best in Wales.

The overall Pembrokeshire pass rate at A-level has increased to an outstanding 99.5%, compared with the Welsh national average of 96.9%. This information, as in previous years, is based on provisional data provided by the WJEC.

That figure puts Pembrokeshire students among the highest achievers in Wales.

The percentage of pupils gaining an A grade in Pembrokeshire was 29.4%, compared to a Welsh average of 23.9%.

Pembrokeshire County Council's head of school improvement and inclusion, Graham Longster, said: "Pembrokeshire's students can be proud of the fact that their results are amongst the best across Wales.

"It gives a clear indication of our continuing high standards at both A and AS levels in the eight Pembrokeshire secondary schools."

Councillor Islwyn Howells, cabinet member for children, young people and Welsh language said: "Education is - and always has been - one of the county council's top priorities. The continuous improvement in results over recent years is certainly evidence that this commitment is paying dividends."

Milford Haven School celebrated its best ever results, which headteacher Pamela Munday attributed to an "extremely determined year group."

Ysgol Dewi Sant's 32 students sat 94 subjects and achieved a 100% pass rate, with 49 (52%) at grade A.

Dr George Davies, headteacher at Sir Thomas Picton School said: "The astonishing figure is that we have twelve pupils - over 12% - with straight As in every subject they took. We have never had so many."

At Ysgol y Preseli, there was a 99.2% A-level pass rate, with 89.1% of those being A-C grades.

Tasker Milward School headteacher, Chris Jones, said: "The pass rate is 98.5% and we have seen an improvement on last year in grades A-C."

Pembroke School's results were very pleasing overall', said headteacher Frank Ciccotti, with a 99.5% pass rate at A-level.

Ysgol Bro Gwaun headteacher Christine Wright congratulated pupils on their well-earned results and thanked parents and guardians for their support.

In Tenby, Greenhill School's A level students claimed a 97% A-E success rate, with 77% A-grades. Headteacher Chris Noble said: "Year 13 has worked hard and come away with good results."

At Pembrokeshire College, full-time students achieved a 95% pass rate. 69% of the grades were A-C and 21% were the maximum A grade. The first cohort of Welsh Baccalaureate students completed their studies. 91% of them passed at advanced level, which is equivalent to an A-grade at A-level.
