Two men have been arrested in connection with the theft of new sports clothing belonging to Neyland Rugby Club, which commemorates the club’s 125th anniversary.

Sometime between 1pm on Saturday and 9am on Sunday intruders broke into a property owned by GE Evans butchers in John Street, Neyland, and stole a selection of rugby and polo shirts, and hoodies, which were being stored there by members of the rugby club.

The distinctive tops are black with a white pinstripe and marked with Neyland Rugby Club logos including the 125th anniversary commemorative badge; the kit was due to be worn by the Youth Squad.

Thieves also made-off with a large quantity of meat from the property including pork fillets, rib-eye steaks and lamb shoulder.

PC Terri Harrison, Neyland Police Station, said: “Two men have been arrested and are due to be questioned in relation to a theft over the weekend.

“I’d urge the local community to work with us to catch the culprits and hopefully recover the rugby kit for the town’s club as well as the other stolen items from the shop.

“Understandably, Neyland Rugby Club is very angry about the thefts and the Youth Team is extremely disappointed as they were looking forward to receiving their new kit during the club’s special anniversary year.”

If anybody witnessed the break-in or has any information about this incident they should contact Dyfed Powys Police, at Neyland Police Station, immediately, on 101.
