Former British Rally driving champion David Llewellin, of Rudbaxton, could be facing a total bill of £65,000 after losing a court case against his brother-in-law.

The well-known sportsman has been ordered to pay John Green, managing director of PMS Car Sales in Haverfordwest, damages of £20,000 after kicking him four years ago.

He also has to pay the complainant’s court costs, which could be as much as £30,000, as well as his own legal bill of around £15,000.

It follows a hearing at Haverfordwest County Court last month, when Mr Green claimed he had developed knee problems and suffered post-traumatic stress since his former brother-in-law kicked him in the back of the leg following an argument.

Speaking to the Western Telegraph following the judgment, John Green said he was pleased the case was over, but felt it should never have ended up in court.

“It should have been negotiated and settled without involving the court,” he said. “It is unacceptable that someone can be attacked in their workplace and these are the consequences. It was an expensive mistake.”

David Llewellin said: “As this case has been going on for three and a half years I’m very relieved it has finally finished. The thought of a further nine months or so of litigation was not something I wished to put myself or my family through.”
