Children and young people all over Pembrokeshire met The Scary Guy last week, who was in the county spreading his message ‘to eliminate anger, hate, violence, death’.

Following his appearance in front of year nine and ten pupils at Pembroke School last Thursday, he told the Western Telegraph: “Everybody thinks I’m a speaker, but I’m not. I never designed myself to be a speaker, I break all the speaker rules, giving them hugs and high fives.

“I’m just a guy, I just travel the world and do whatever I can do make it a better day, every day, that’s my job.”

The 57-year-old former tattoo artist challenged the pupils not to insult anyone for seven days and seven nights, and also to hug their friends and family on a regular basis.

Scary added: “If I call you a rotten name or a rotten word, who is that about? How do we empower the mind of the child or the human being to choose who they’re going to be when they’re verbally assaulted?”

Scary said that the response he’d had from the Pembrokeshire people had been good, adding: “I really like Wales, I really like the people, I think they have a huge capacity to get this idea of difference and change.”

He said that seeing his message get across to young people was his ‘fuel’.

“It’s just like putting petrol in your car,” he said.

“When the kids do what they did in that room today that’s like ‘hey take some energy back man’, it keeps you going.

“They’re not perfect people, but they’re going to try and they’re going to do their best, that’s my energy.”

Scary, who has flown all over the world to promote his efforts, said he had plans to meet Prime Minister David Cameron next month.

The Scary Guy has already received a number of responses from Pembrokeshire residents on his Facebook page and he said he responds personally to all e-mails and fan page messages.

The Scary Guy visited the county at the invitation of Safer Pembrokeshire, supported by Dyfed-Powys Police.
