It wasn’t just spirits discovered by amateur ghost hunters in Haverfordwest but a historic building in need of urgent attention.

Andy Chandler, of Pembrokeshire Beyond, stumbled across Haroldston House and his team set off for a closer look at the ruined building just off Freemens Way.

A year later the building, the possible birth place of Sir John Perrot, had fallen further into disrepair so Andy set about trying to raise awareness of the building.

“It’s less than a mile away from Haverfordwest Priory which has paths around it and plaques telling people about its history while Haroldston House is just forgotten. People don’t seem to know much about it and we want to change that and get something done.

“It’s not in the most glorious of places but that doesn’t mean it’s not got a glorious past.

“This building is at serious risk of being forgotten. But there is enough of it left for tourists to be able to walk round it on paths and for people to learn about what was there,” said Andy.

Haverfordwest Gild of Freemen owns Haroldston House and former Master Malcolm Green explained the historic building had in no way been forgotten and the organisation had been working closely with CADW for a number of years.

“What we would want to do eventually is turn it into an amenity area. The ruins that are there are in a state that makes it not really safe enough to encourage people to go there at the moment,” he said.

Mr Green added that surveys had been carried out, but with a building of such historic importance the process is slow and meticulous.
