Connie fever has well and truly hit Pembrokeshire. Orange balloons, banners, posters, flags, ribbons and emails are urging people to vote Connie Fisher into the star role of Maria von Trapp in the West End production of The Sound of Music.

One three-year-old is even sporting an orange plaster on his broken foot with the message VOTE CONNIE 872222.

Three-year-old Jack Elliott (pictured), and his brother Morgan, aged five, are among the thousands of fans of Connie - who has reached the final of the BBC TV programme How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?

On Saturday, Connie, of Hayscastle, was firm favourite of two of the three judges, musical theatre actor John Barrowman and theatre producer David Ian.

But it is down to the public this Saturday and just to make sure you don't forget to vote for Connie, a group of friends - Jen Mathias, Wendy Preece and Deb Yabsley -have stepped up their Connie' campaign. They will be at Vincent Davies store and MacDonalds, Haverfordwest, today (Wednesday); out and about in Pembroke and Pembroke Dock tomorrow, at Haverfordwest's Tesco on Friday, and at Riverside Shopping on Saturday.

Wendy said: "Connie did a lot of charity work for me and brought joy to the community with her singing. "

Jen's brother Andrew is an ex-boyfriend of Connie's and flew from Belgium, where he works as an electronics engineer, to join Connie's family at Saturday's show.

Connie's mother, Jan said: "Andrew had quite a difficult journey. Because he had medication with him he was stopped by customs, following the recent terrorist threat, and missed his connection, so he only arrived at the studio just as Connie was about to sing. It was good to see him."

Jan Fisher, and Connie's grandmother, Dot Peare, Mountain Cott Farm, Hayscastle, face a nerve-wracking time on Saturday.

"It's been a wonderful experience for Connie," said Jan. "She woke me at 7am on Monday saying: "Guess where I am?" She was in a five-star hotel in Salzburg - where Christopher Plummer had stayed when the film was made - and the three finalists were taken on a tour of the city and then up to the hills where Maria sang."
