Eighty pupils and 10 members of staff at Ysgol Glannau Gwaun in Fishguard are absent from school today (Friday) due to illness. Most are reporting sickness and diarrhoea.
Due to staffing difficulties, the headteacher has been forced to close the school. It will be closed to pupils after dinner at 1pm and the school has been contacting all parents to request that they collect their children.
The children of parents who cannot be contacted will remain in school until the end of the school day and will be supervised by teaching staff.
The school is sending a letter home with all pupils containing health advice and information on the situation. Letters will be posted to pupils not in school today.
Officers from Pembrokeshire County Council’s Public Protection department have been investigating the situation, in liaison with Public Health Wales. Early enquiries suggest that the illness appears to be of short duration.
No other schools in the area are affected. The school will be open as normal on Monday morning (January 30th).
