Tributes have been made to "everyone's best friend" Hannah Gwilliam from Burton who died after contracting meningitis last week.

The 18-year-old Pembrokeshire College Foundation Art student died on Thursday night.

Public Health Wales confirmed that Hannah had contracted the meningococcal serotype group B strain.

Pembrokeshire College Principal Sharron Lusher said: "“Staff and students from across the College wish to extend their heartfelt condolences to the student's family and friends.

"We are all devastated by the news and will be offering support to any students affected by this tragedy.”

A group of Hannah's close friends put together a heartwarming tribute to Hannah, known as Gwill, Seal or Mole, who was "the life and soul of the party and the heart of the group".

"Han was everyone's best friend and everyone's personal entertainer. Never without a smile on her face, we're forever blessed with her energy. She taught us how to live on the wild side and not to take life to seriously," they added.

Hannah's tutors Cath and Richard Brooks also paid tribute to the student who had been accepted at Cardiff University a week before her death.

"Hannah was someone who looked at the world around her and did one of two things, either turned it into art or got involved and enjoyed every moment. In her short time she wasted no time and lived her life to the full. Not many of us can say we have done that despite the gift of many more years," said Richard.

Cath added: "Hannah was obsessed with observing the creative potential in everything she saw or experienced. She had huge ambition to achieve combined with a generous spirit to assist and support others in their own endeavours.

"She will be deeply missed by the student body and staff alike. We can only hope to strive and maintain the high standards that Hannah set."
