Council house rents will rise by 2% from April this year. This will mean that average weekly rents for a council property will go from £61.63 to £62.86.
Cllr David Simpson, cabinet spokesman for housing and sustainability, pointed out that these increases were substantially less than those imposed by housing associations in the county.
He also noted that Pembrokeshire was one of only three local authorities in Wales to have improved the quality of its housing stock so that it meets the Welsh housing quality standard by March 31st next year.
“We have taken the bit and completed what we said we’d do. We’ve done what we were told to do and we’ve done it admirably,” he said.
The rent increase was approved by cabinet today (Monday). It will go to a meeting of full council in two weeks’ time for formal signing off.
