Food drive serves up 40 kilos

Curves Pembroke Dock has donated more than 40 kilos of food to the Pembrokeshire Women’s Refuge following its 14th annual food drive.

The huge total was raised by members and the wider community who donated non-perishable foods in aid of the worthy cause throughout March.

“Our members’ generosity is a true reflection of the Curves spirit and community,”

said Nola Coutts, of Curves Pembroke Dock. “We are thrilled with the outstanding effort from our members and friends.”

This year, the Curves Food Drive collected a grand total of 93,587kg from thousands of clubs across Europe, which will be distributed to a local food bank or charity of each club’s choice. The UK Curves community were responsible for around 23% of this final contribution.

A spokesman for the Women’s Refuge said: “We are extremely grateful for the continuing support we receive from the Curves members.”

New Curves members also contributed through taking part in a special promotion which allowed them to join for a bag of donated food, instead of the normal joining fee.

Zoe Cole, manager of the gym, said: “The food drive is a vital part of our community program that fits perfectly with the Curves philosophy of promoting positive health and creating a community for “real women”.

We look forward to many years of giving back to the community through deserving charities such as Hafan Cymru.”

Curves members worldwide have donated more than 27.7 million kilos of food since 2004, enough to feed 1.85 million people for seven days.
