Olympic Torch bearer profiles: James Williams

One of Wales’ youngest torchbearers is James Williams. The 12-year-old Sir Thomas Picton pupil was nominated by his sports teachers.

“We are very proud of James at Sir Thomas Picton School,” said deputy head Tim Williams.

“We nominated him for consideration to be an Olympic torchbearer because of his total commitment to all the sporting opportunities offered at the school.

“If there is an extracurricular club to attend or a team to be a member of, James is always at the front of the queue. He’s an inspiration to us all.”

James is a keen football player who will start training with Cardiff City the day after he carries the flame. He also likes tennis and is developing well in golf, squash and badminton.

“I was proud and excited when I found out I would be carrying the torch,” said James. “I’m not nervous.”
