Lead warning follows dog death

Coastguards are warning dog owners to keep their dogs on leads near cliffs after a Labrador fell to its death near Abercastle on Saturday morning.

The dog had been on holiday with its owners from Newcastle Under Lyme. It was not on a lead and had been chasing birds near the cliffs when it fell at around 11.30 am.

Fishguard coastguards were called to the incident. A local boat retrieved the dog and retuned it to its distraught owners.

In a separate incident on Friday night a male boxer dog from Neyland was rescued by Broad Haven coastguards after falling 20 foot over cliffs at Newgale on Friday night.

Coastguards used rope rescue gear to retrieve the dog who was reunited, unharmed, with its owner.
