The now solar powered Newport Memorial Hall is reopening with a special event at 7pm tomorrow (Friday), with guest speakers and displays.

Regional AM Simon Thomas will officially open the hall’s upgrade which includes 10 kWh of solar PV panels on the roof, a new air tight, super insulated ceiling using natural cellulous fibre, low energy lights, an energy display and green events programme.

Inspiring local speakers on green issues include Glen Peters, owner of Rhosygilwen and the largest solar farm in Wales, Brian Marks who advised the UK and Welsh Government on renewables and Cris Tomos on his successes of groundbreaking community-owned enterprises in Cardigan and Hermon.

Mr Thomas said: “I am delighted to be part of the opening of the Newport Memorial Hall. It shows the small steps we can take locally to tackle the global climate crisis.”

There will be selection of stalls for funding, new initiatives, local food and renewables which should provide ideas and useful information to community groups and individuals.

Chairman of the hall’s committee Reg Atkinson said: “We are all pleased with the end result of this project and hope to see real reductions in the hall’s energy use.”
