Rowers pull together for Missing People

A team of young people from Newport Boat Club will set off on an eight mile row this Sunday, with the aim of raising at least £1000 for charity.

The team has set their sights on raising funds for the charity Missing People, following the disappearance of Cardigan man, Owain Roberts, four months ago.

The 36-year-old, a technician at Theatr Mwldan and guitarist for The Reasoning, is a well-known and much-loved character.

Despite extensive enquiries and searches, and several reported sightings, Owain has not been found.

His family, friends and Dyfed-Powys police are becoming increasingly concerned for his welfare. They believe he may be travelling around the UK and they desperately want him to make contact.

Sam Faulkner and his team will be collecting donations and sponsors for the row from Goodwick to Newport.

Their long boat is due to come in to Newport Boat Club around 7.30pm, the upstairs bar at the club will be open to non-members and there will be a barbeque and live music.

Event organiser Sam is hoping that the event will raise funds to enable Missing People to continue its vital work with missing and vulnerable adults, young runaways and their families left behind.

“What Sam and his friends are doing by raising this money is humbling,” said Lisa Head from Theatr Mwldan. “It also helps us to maintain awareness of Owain’s disappearance and encourage people to keep an eye out for him where ever they go this summer.”

Sponsorship forms will be available at Theatr Mwldan, Penrallt Garden Centre (Moylegrove), Newport Boat Club and The Eagle Inn, Cardigan. Donations can also be made online through www.justgiving.com/newportrowing
