The importance of merchant seafarers will be the subject of a number of talks held across Pembrokeshire this month.
Rev Mark Warner of international charity the Sailors’ Society will talk at Milford Haven International Seafarers’ Centre at 3pm today (Monday), drawing attention to the growing need to support merchant seafarers.
Mark said the life of a merchant seafarer can be very harsh and dangerous.
“Seafarers suffer the stress of living in close quarters among varying cultures, beliefs and language for extended periods," he said.
"They constantly seek our friendship and welfare support when in port to give them some respite from their isolation and the rigorous existence.”
The Sailors’ Society’s will also have a stand at this week’s County Show.
