Pembs GCSE results continue on "upward trajectory"

Pembrokeshire’s GCSE results this year have continued to show improvement.
Provisional data provided by the WJEC shows the percentage of pupils achieving WJEC grades A* - C is 67.1 per cent, up from 66.1 per cent last year and above the Wales average of 65.4 per cent.
The percentage of pupils achieving grades A* or A grade is 18.9 per cent.
The A* - G percentage pass rate in Pembrokeshire (WJEC results only) is 99.4 per cent.
Pembrokeshire County Council’s Head of School Effectiveness, Martin Lloyd, said:
“Overall provisional results from each of Pembrokeshire’s eight secondary schools show that results are on the whole continuing to improve with significant improvement in some schools.
“It is encouraging that the hard work of schools is continuing our upward trajectory.”
Councillor Huw George, Cabinet Member for Education and the Welsh Language, added:
“Today is a milestone for our young people and I congratulate each individual student on their success.
“Many will be returning to continue their studies and some will be starting work or taking up apprentiships. Parents should be rightly proud of their children’s results.
“I also acknowledge the hard work of teachers and the local authority who have worked well under increased expectation.”
