The number of jobless people fell across Pembrokeshire in July.

Both the Preseli Pembrokeshire and Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire constituencies recorded a slight fall in the number of people claiming jobseeker’s allowance.

The number of people out of work in the Preseli Pembrokeshire constituency in July 2012 was 1,386.

This represents a rate of 4.4%, the 365th highest of the 650 UK constituencies.

The number of claimants is 23 lower than in July 2011 and 52 lower than in June 2012.

In the Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire constituency, the number of job seekers in July 2012 was 1,306 (4.1%), the 392nd highest in the UK.

The number of claimants is 34 higher than in July 2011 and 12 lower than in June 2012.

Preseli Pembrokeshire MP Stephen Crabb welcomed the figures.

He said: “The latest jobless figures for Pembrokeshire are unquestionably good news with the downward trend continuing.

Unemployment in Preseli Pembrokeshire is lower than it was last month and, crucially, lower than it was 12 months ago.

“No one is pretending that the economic outlook is anything other than fragile and uncertain, but when it comes to real jobs in the local economy the picture continues to provide grounds for optimism.”
