The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series will make its UK debut this morning (Friday) at Abereiddy near St Davids.

The initial rounds begin just after 11am, with 14 of the world's finest divers leaping from a purpose built platform 27m above the Blue Lagoon.

More than 1500 spectators are expected to watch the sell-out event, which will be the penultimate stop on the world series tour.

The final rounds will take place tomorrow morning from 11.15am, with the prize giving ceremony due to take place at around 1pm.

Local businesses have already reported a boost in trade as a result of the event.

One of those taking part is British Olympic diver Blake Aldridge, who said: "My plan is to try and overcome absolute fear because there is no safety net.

"Once you leave that platform you've just got to hope that your body and mind serve you correctly, because if you get it wrong, you're only going to get it wrong once," he added.

"When we hit the water we hit it at 85 to 90 kilometres an hour and I can tell you it's a complete and utter shockwave through your entire body."
