Crowds turn out for cliff diving spectacular

More than 1500 descended on the Blue Lagoon at Abereiddy this morning (Saturday) for the second and final day of the Red Bull Cliff Diving Word Series event.

Some spectators travelled to the breached quarry by boat or kayak to get a better look at the action, while others packed the opposite side of the lagoon and lined the cliffs above to get a look at the 14 divers taking part.

The event was won by American Steven LoBue, with Colombian Orlando Duque took second spot. Gary Hunt took third place on home turf, with British compatriot Blake Aldridge back in seventh.

The results leave Hunt in second place in the overall standings on 770 points, behind Duque on 840.

The round was the penultimate stop on the world tour and was the first time the UK had hosted a leg. The divers will now travel to Oman for the final round.
