Tenby lifeboat was involved in a six hour rescue in the early hours of this morning (Monday).

The resort’s all weather lifeboat launched at 1.50am to the aid of the 15 metre, 140 tonne, fishing vessel the Olivia Bell.

The boat, with three crew on board, had suffered a trapped rudder and lost her steering five miles south of St Govans Head.

After assessing the situation and taking into account the poor weather and tidal conditions, it was decided to tow the vessel to its home port of Ilfracombe some 36 miles to the southeast.

The Ilfracombe all weather lifeboat was launched to meet up with Tenby lifeboat half way.

At around 7am the tow was passed to the Ilfracombe lifeboat. Tenby Lifeboat headed back to station arriving at 7.40am.
