Pembrokeshire artist and author Jackie Morris has raised over £2,000 for tiger conservation charity, 21st Century Tiger, by auctioning an original painting from her new book I am Cat.
A donation auction for a 53cm by 36cm water colour of a tiger ran until 12pm today (Monday).
On the second day of the auction a starting bid of £1650 was received, far outstripping the reserve of £1000. The final and winning bid was for £2,150.
As research for I am Cat, Jackie was able to go behind the scenes at London Zoo and feed the tigers there. Through the zoo Jackie became involved with the 21st Century Tiger project.
The charity works to protect the habitat of the tigers in harmony with the people who live alongside them. All money given to them goes towards their projects rather than admin costs.
“Even though in my lifetime I may never ever see a tiger in the wild my world is a richer place for knowing that these wonderful creatures are there,” she said.
“It is my hope that when I have grandchildren tigers will still walk through their dreams and through the forests of the world as living creatures and not something from history, creatures of myth.”
