10:33am Wednesday 17th October 2012 in News
A group of masked men burst into a Milford Haven home last Thursday, attacked a man with a crow bar and table leg and fled with a safe containing around £14,000 in cash.
Magistrates in Haverfordwest heard about the "terrifying and sustained attack" which led to a high speed police chase across south and west Wales.
Prosecutor Christopher James told the that at around 10.30pm last Thursday three men in black masks entered a property in Edward Street, Milford Haven.
They set about the householder, Neil MacDonald, who had been watching television with his wife.
The court was told that they struck him until he fell to the floor, kicking him so badly that he suffered serious injuries.
The group then made off with the safe.
A high-speed police chase followed, which resulted in a BMW crashing on the Pont Abraham roundabout.
Five men appeared in front of magistrates in Haverfordwest on Monday charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary.
Ian Jenkins, aged 25, of Battersea, London; 25-year-old Michael Lash-Larbie of Mitcham, Surrey; 31-year-old Bradley Clancy of Wellington, Surrey; 17-year-old Ronnie Alfie Arnold of Beddington, Surrey and 29-year-old Jordan Rheinhardt of Wallington, Croydon, were all jointly charged with conspiracy to enter a property as trespassers with intention to steal and commit grievous bodily harm.
Rheinhardt was also charged with dangerous driving.
Each man appeared in the dock on Monday handcuffed and flanked by two security guards and two police officers.
There was a heavy police presence in court, with a total of nine officers in the court room at one point in the proceedings.
None of the men have yet entered pleas. Jenkins, Arnold and Rheinhardt applied for bail, but magistrates refused the application.
All five defendants were remanded in custody. They will appear in front of Swansea crown court next Tuesday, October 23rd.
