Rolf airs his take on famous Tenby artist

The life and work of Tenby-born artist Augustus John is explored on television tonight (Friday) by Rolf Harris.

This will be the second in the Rolf On Welsh Art series on BBC One Wales, in which the presenter and entertainer goes in search of the inspiration of some of the country’s greatest artists.

In the programme, partly filmed in Tenby, Rolf tells the life story of John – one that he describes as "full of creative passions, wild bohemian parties and some pretty intense personal shenanigans as well".

He looks at some John masterpieces in the Tate warehouse, and visits Snowdonia which inspired some of his celebrated landscape paintings.

Also spotlighted will be John’s lifelong friendship with Dylan Thomas, and the story of their shared passion for one woman which almost proved their undoing.

Rolf – who took time out during the filming of the programme for an impromptu sing-song with Tenby Male Choir – also creates his own personal tribute painting to Augustus John.

Rolf on Welsh Art: Augustus John is on BBC One Wales at 7.30pm tonight (Friday).
