A BETHESDA business has been shortlisted for the Wales Horticultural Awards 2013.

Food supplier Pembrokeshire Produce Direct (PPD) has been shortlisted for the collaboration in business award.

The award recognises businesses who work with other individuals and organisations on a mutual basis using innovative ideas and initiative.

PPD is a non-profit organisation which works alongside farmers and food suppliers by selling products through an online food store selling fresh local produce to the community.

A brand new team at PPD was formed in May with the main objective of developing a new eat, drink and be local campaign.

There are more than 70 producers and 2,000 products available on the website.

Team manager Ashley Calvert said he was “delighted” at being shortlisted for the award.

“As a brand new team we came into the business with a number of goals and objectives,” he said.

“One of our main aims was to deliver an even higher quality service, not just to our customers but also to our suppliers.

“I feel this is one of the major aspects of the shortlisting as we have built such a strong and trusted relationship with our suppliers, and work really well to establish a successful service from online orders to delivering to the customers’ front door.”

The team is to receive a visit from a panel of judges and the award ceremony takes place at the Royal Welsh winter fair on Monday, December 2.
