Work begins on Gatehouse homes
10:50am Sunday 27th January 2013 in County News
Work has begun on a seafront development of nearly 40 apartments on the site of Tenby’s Royal Gatehouse Hotel.
The UK’s leading retirement builder, McCarthy and Stone, is carrying out the construction of the one and two-bedroomed ‘Later Living’ apartments aimed at the over-60s market.
‘Off plan’ sales of the 38 apartments will begin this summer, with the first properties ready for occupancy in early 2014.
The company has built more than 45,000 retirement apartments in 1,000 difference schemes in the UK and its regional sales and marketing director, Aileen King, said: “Starting construction of our Later Living development marks an exciting milestone in helping the over-60s in Tenby make the most of later life.
“When complete, the apartments will be low maintenance in design and will benefit from modern fittings, good security and will have a number of specialist features.”
The development will include a shared lounge, guest suite, laundry room and a lift, with a dedicated house manager and 24-hour emergency call points.
The exterior design of the building will reflect the style of the former Royal Gatehouse Hotel, which was devastated in a fire nearly five years ago. It is part of a multi-million pound scheme for the site and its surrounding land, which includes a new 61-bedroomed Premier Inn hotel and restaurant which will adjoin the McCarthy and Stone development.
