Concern over plans for new St Davids lifeboat station

Local boat owners have raised concerns over the RNLI’s plans to construct a new lifeboat station near St Davids.

St Davids county councillor David Lloyd said the Porthstinian Boat Owners’ Association had considered the plan at a recent meeting.

He said members were concerned that the 18 months of construction could affect people’s livelihoods.

“Further, if, as happened in Tenby, the old boathouse were to be sold into private hands, the use of the Porthstinian slipway would be lost for ever to members and the local community,” he said.

“A campaign has therefore been embarked upon to gain the support of all potential stakeholders with a view to creating a comprehensive development plan for Porthstinian to serve the whole community, as one member observed, for the next 100 years.”

St Davids city councillors have unanimously voted to support the plans. Local MP Stephen Crabb has said he is investigating the concerns over the plan.
