TASKER Milward pupils were in the pink on Friday for a breast cancer awareness day.

The ‘Are you Tough Enough to Wear Pink?’ event not only raised awareness but also vital funds for the Breast Cancer Campaign.

Pupil Danielle Woodcroft had a close shave when her mum Yvette lopped off her locks on stage, watched by her nan Jean and hundreds of pupils.

Danielle has raised £800 so far, in honour of her nan who has recently completed her breast cancer treatment.

Jean said: “She’s amazing, I didn’t think she’d do it. Now we’ll be in competition to grow our hair back.

“I started my treatment in January, if it wasn’t for my daughters and grandchildren I don’t think I ‘d have got through it.”

Mum Yvette, of Andrew Price hairdressers, said she’d been nervous about shaving Danielle’s hair and added: “I was shaking doing it, I felt terrible, but it’s for a great cause and it’ll grow back.”

As well as the head shave, some of the male teachers and sixth form pupils bravely stepped forward to have their legs waxed by Dani O’Connor, of Dani’s Massage and Beauty.

The sixth form band also performed and cakes were sold, with all the pupils encouraged to wear pink for the day and to donate funds.
