A COUNTY councillor is offering a tenner out of his own pocket to people who drop irresponsible pet owners in it.

Fed up with dog fouling on the pavements of Narberth, Councillor Wynne Evans has pledged to splash out his cash to have the culprits’ owners named and shamed.

“It will be money well spent if it cleans up my town,” said Councillor Evans, who has had leaflets specially printed to highlight his campaign.

With a headline reading Dog Poo Alert! and an eye-catching photo of a dog contemplating a mop and bucket, the leaflets offering the £10 'reward’ are being handed out by Councillor Evans at dog fouling hotspots.

“We’ve had £600,000 spent on new Safe Routes to School footpaths in Narberth, and within two days of them opening, some of them were absolutely blighted by dog mess,” he said this week.

“What annoys me is that people know who isn’t picking up after their pets, but they haven’t been prepared to tell me.

“I’m hoping now that by offering them a financial incentive, they may come clean.”

Councillor Evans has already paid out £20 to informants, and has passed the names of the dirty dog owners on to Pembrokeshire County Council’s dog warden department, who will then send out warning letters.

“I’m planning on continuing the campaign until Christmas,” he said.

“This is a positive action being taken against a long-standing problem, and about time, too.”
